The island of Murter is the largest island of Sibenik archipelago and the home island of all Kornati. The island is separated from the mainland by the narrow Murter channel and is connected to land with a bridge in a place called Tisno. Here in addition to olive growing, stock breading and fishing, some of the best wooden boats are still today being built in Betina. This is a village and harbour on the north-eastern coast of the island of Murter, at the northern entrance into the Murter Channel. It is 31 km from Sibenik and 6 km from Tisno. Betina is situated in a small harbour on the peninsula. It was founded in the 15th ct. by the refugees from the mainland who fled in front of the Turks.

Besides for the traditional activities, fishing and agriculture, the inhabitants of Betina are well known shipbuilders. As early as in 1848 a shipyard was opened with the purpose to build big wooden ships. Continuing that tradition in Betina there is still a shipyard with the same name but nowaday sports and fishing boats are built here. Betina is also a harbour so the marina in Zdrace bay has 200 berths and 80 boat storage places. Betina was first mentioned in the 16th century and its inhabitants are traditionally wine growers, olive growers and fishermen. Betina is perfect for a quiet holiday, while boating enthusiasts can rent or use their own boats to explore the numerous picturesque bays of Murter and the islets nearby. Betina is known for its seafood restaurants and as the starting point for visiting Kornati National Park.

Betina is dominated by the parish church of St.Francis built at the beginning of the 17th ct. It was enlarged several times and in the 18th ct. the bell tower was built. Not far from Betina, on the hill of Gradina a medieval church of Our Lady of Gradina is preserved. Besides beautiful picturesque places on the island, Tisno and Murter the islands of Zlarin, Kaprije, Zirje, Prvic and Krapanj nearby are also very beautiful. Not to mention Kornati National Park and Krka National Park not so far away.

The people from Betina deal with tourism for some time and you can rent a boat, you can enjoy in various cultural programmes and especially in always fresh fish on the menues of the local restaurants.
