Podstrana is a small tourist place of the Mediterranean ambience and abundant vegetation, situated 8 km south from Split, the centre of Central Dalmatia, developing into it's elite suburb. Podstrana is embellished by dense vegetation and the natural gift of the clean sea and it is an excellent choice for the escape from the everyday life.

It extends under the Perun hill 553 m high, and on its mild slopes were constructed the antique rustical villas, and the Reneissance village houses and palaces. The cradle of the ancient Podstrana is Stara Podstrana, the series of the secular horizontal stone houses, gardens and alleys in which forever lives the spirit of the past. From there life floated into the sea band where today are the urban places: Strozanac, Grljevac, Sveti Martin, i Mutogras.

Two sanctuaries of Saint Juraj splend on the mountain peaks against the sky, the strongest two supports of the spiritualism of the sacred patrimony in the Old Croatia.The peace treaty between Duke Mislav and the Venetian dodge Tradeni was concluded near the church of St. Martin in Podstrana, in which „mare nostrum“ was mentioned for the first time ever.

Economy is based on farming (olive plants, peach plantations, grapes...) and tourism. On the comunity teritory almost 2000 families work in the tourist bussiness, they rent rooms and appartments and there are 1900 registered beds in the disposition of a tourist or some other visitor.

The construction of little private hotels and the great tourist agglomeration „Lav“ have enriched the offer in Podstrana in its lodging capacities and for a whole series of the collateral contents which rise the level of the active tourism.

Thanks to the geografical particularities visitors can choose from the various contents of the recreation in the nature; walking paths, climbing and ciclying paths, a day trip in the old village of Podstrana, a visit to the cultural and storical localities.

On the sea you can choose between windsurfing, sailing, water skiing, and parachuting on the sea.There are day trips offered; rafting on Cetina which is 15 km distant, riding in the nature on the fields some 30 km of the distance, fish-picnicks, visits on the various historico-cultural localities etc.

And finally after all those difficult activities in the nature there is a great gastronomic offer of the domestic and international food and vines expecting you in numerous taverns, restorants, pizzerias and caffès.
