The most common type of beach in Croatia is the pebble beach. The pebble is a little rock that ocean currents and waves finely processed and buffed over time, so there are no sharp edges. Thus, where the impact of the sea has been stronger, rocks are finer and smaller. Croatia has hundreds of kilometers of beaches. In addition to pebble beaches, they are usually made of stone cliffs. Some parts of the coast, especially the city's beaches, or ones near the hotels are specially designed for swimmers. These beaches may have paved sections. Croatia does not have a lot of sandy beaches. More often is the case that the sand is in the sea while on the coast is pebble. If you really want to swim on a sandy beach then you have to go to Lumbarda on the island Korcula, or visit the countryside of Nin, Omiš city, or the island Vis, and perhaps Orebic on Peninsula Pelješac.
Croatia has about 150 beach having the "blue flag" label-it is a special symbol for water purity and required contents on the beach and quality of the service. That does not mean that other beaches in Croatia are not good, on the contrary, you may much more like some other beach that does not have that label. Moreover 99% of the Croatian seashore is clean so you can swim anywhere and you'll have to find yourself a place that suits you best.
