Krk Island is the northernmost island of the Mediterranean and it is located in the Kvarner Bay. It is also the largest island of the Adriatic Sea with an area of 409.9 km ². Krk is the island with the most populated areas (68 of them). There are 17 860 inhabitants on Krk today.
You can come easily on the island by car, ot with the aircraft to the airport near Omisalj. The arrival is also possible by ferries from the island of Cres and Lopar on the island of Rab. All the coastal towns have exceptionally well-maintained ports for all types of vessels.
The island of Krk has a warm climate and rocky landscape with interesting forms of caves and caverns (Biserujka at Dobrinja). The central part is surrounded by fertile fields. The coast is indented with numerous bays and sandy beaches and coves. Prvic Island and north-steep slopes of the coast on the island of Krk are ornithological reserves, in which the griffon vulture lives.
The island has walking and bike tracks in the length of 300 km. There are 14 Blue Flags on the beaches of the island. Krk is one of the sunniest parts of Europe, with 2,500 hours of sunshine annually. There is a beach with mud on the west side of the bay Klimno, which offers the possibility of good fun ... picigin in the sea or the volleyball and football on the beach.
Accommodation is available in hotels, camps and private homes. With extraordinary Krk olive oil, cheese and quality lamb and fish, the island of Krk boasts with many original taverns and good restaurants where you can taste traditional dishes like lamb "zvaceta", lamb stew with "surlice"or sweet "presnace".
Krk Island is rich in cultural and historical heritage which have to be experienced. Be sure to visit the old part of almost every town and parish churches, besides museums with ethnographic and religious items, many galleries and library Vitezic in Vrbnik. Baska Aquarium offers a unique experience of sea life, and you can enjoy a variety of supporting facilities on the island (Krk Fair or Lovreceva in August, the Festival of Krk folklore, many summer events of entertaining and classical music, workshops for children, night fishing, sports events, fishing, diving, excursions to nearby national parks Plitvice lakes, Risnjak and Northern Velebit, or Gorski Kotar, maybe Venice, Istria ....)
